At 60, Michelle Yeoh is embracing life with a zest that shines brighter than ever, mainly as she garners Oscar buzz for her captivating performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once. The Malaysian star, renowned for her martial arts prowess and powerful roles, reflects on her career with a mix of surprise and gratitude. “At this point in my career, being cast felt like an unexpected blessing,” she reveals in a heartfelt interview.
Navigating the film industry has challenges, especially as age becomes a factor. Michelle poignantly shares, “The older you get, they see you by your age rather than your capability.” This realization struck a chord as she reminisced about the validation offered by the film’s visionary directors, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. They entrusted her with a role that required not only physical strength but also a delicate balance of comedy and drama, reigniting her passion for the craft.
Reflecting on her journey, Michelle admits to a lingering fear of her illustrious career fading with each passing year. “You don’t want it to just slow down because of age,” she confesses. It’s a reality she faces when scripts often cast older heroes on grand adventures, leaving her yearning for equal opportunity. “Give me a chance,” she insists, determined to prove her versatility and vigour.
Michelle’s path has also seen her step back from the limelight after marrying producer Dickson Poon, only to reenter when life led her elsewhere. “Now I have godchildren, beautiful ones who are like my extended family,” she shares, glowing with love for her new role. With her long-time partner, Jean Todt, by her side, Michelle approaches each day with gratitude, starting her mornings with stretches and a heartfelt apology to her body for the daring stunts that lie ahead. “This body takes a lot of bumps and bruises,” she smiles, acknowledging the resilience that defines her remarkable journey.

Balenciaga‘s new Bel Air handbag is introduced with help from Michelle Yeoh, Naomi Watts and Isabelle Huppert in the fashion house’s latest campaign.
In new imagery revealed on Thursday, each star creates their very own “character study.” Sitting in front of a white background, Yeoh, Watts and Huppert are dressed in signature Balenciaga ready-to-wear: trompe-l’oeil pantashoes, vintage-inspired graphics and evening dresses.
Named for the historic Los Angeles neighborhood, the Bel Air follows in the footsteps of Balenciaga’s Rodeo bag. That silhouette debuted this spring with a campaign fronted by Nicole Kidman and Amelia Gray.
The Bel Air initially was initially featured in Balenciaga’s fall 2024 presentation in Paris in March. WWD’s Miles Socha said the collection “stayed true to [creative director Demna Gvasalia’s] hardcore, DIY inclinations but with less angst and more wry humor, even playfulness.”
The Bel Air’s hallmark is a logo-engraved metal twist lock. Available in black and ivory colorways, the calfskin tote features two slender belts across the front, as well as a softened napa lining. The Bel Air comes in two different sizes, while the black iteration has both gold and silver hardware options.
“[The Bel Air’s] construction is deceptively relaxed, with a fortified, round-edged build designed to live as a timeless heirloom,” Balenciaga’s press release reads.
Yeoh and Huppert were officially named Balenciaga brand ambassadors in 2023, while Watts wore one of the label’s designs at this year’s Met Gala. Alongside her daughter, Kai Schreiber, Watts was also a front row fixture at Balenciaga’s latest couture presentation in June.
